TEVFIK KAPTAN - Torre VadoAt about 11 km from Santa Maria di Leuca, in Torre Vado, in June 2007 the Turkish cargo ship TEVFIK KAPTAN sank, lying today about 0.5 miles from the coast at a maximum depth of about 20 meters.
The ship was carrying aluminum bars and sank due to adverse weather conditions. After a careful reclamation work the wreck of Torre Vado has become the paradise for groupers and sea bream, also a must for diving enthusiasts.
RELITTO del NeuraliaDiving between S. Isidoro and Torre Inserraglio about 2 miles from the coast and at a depth of -33 meters. at the bottom lies the wreckage of an American military ship, the Neuralia, which sank during World War II.
Little remains of the wreckage but from some information we were able to know that this ship was carrying food and supplies of military material (gas masks, paints, spare parts, etc.). In the vicinity of the bulkheads and trees, encrusted with coralline algae, it attracts bryozoans, tunicates and gorgonians, shoals of amberjacks (seriola dumerilii), skipjack (Sardinian sarda), lampughe (corifena hippurus) and rare greenhouse fish that make a massacre of small menole and boghe. Inside, lobsters and spider crabs find refuge, while the various openings make large pebbles and morays.
RELITTO dello Junker 88The wreck of a Junkers Ju 88 fighter-bomber crashed in the waters in front of Santa Caterina di Nardò (LE) during the Second World War, lying at a depth of about 36 meters, lying on a sandy bottom in perfect shape.
No one knows exactly why the plane crashed, and the local elders only remember having heard a large plane flying over Santa Caterina and then having seen it crash about 2 miles from the coast. For many years, however, this was considered a legend that the local elders told to young people.
The plane is in excellent condition, even if the end of the tail has detached from the rest of the fuselage during the impact on the surface of the sea and is now a few meters from the rest of the wreck.
On board there is no armament, but all the instrumentation on board, the pilot's seat and the two powerful engines, type Junker Jumo 211J with inverted V cylinder, are clearly visible.
The immersion on this wreck is not particularly difficult, and starting to descend into the blue one immediately glimpses the shape of the plane in its entirety, then approaching it you can see the almost perfectly intact nacelle that offers excellent cues for beautiful photographic shots.
The wreck of the Ju 88, which is located on a seabed where the water is particularly clear, offers divers unique emotions, thanks to its great historical interest and the set of colors created by the flora and from the fauna that over the years have covered the entire structure of the aircraft.
Sarcofagi romani - San Pietro in BevagnaIn the waters in front of the sea is San Pietro in Bevagna between Gallipoli and Taranto, it is found
one of the most important underwater archaeological sites of the whole Mediterranean. There are 23 very heavy sarcophagi in Greek marble destined for the burial of important figures of ancient Rome. The not yet decorated degree blocks traveled on a ship that for unknown reasons sank, carrying with it the precious cargo: from the III century. A.D. the SARCOPHAGAS OF KING lie at the bottom of the sea.
relitto ATTILIO DEFFENU - San CataldoThe wreck ATTILIO DEFFENU, an Italian cruiser sunk in 1941 by a British submarine, is about 30 meters away. in depth off San Cataldo. In these waters lies the Italian cargo ship NINA BIANCHI which sank in 1940 following a collision with a steamer.
Colonne romane - Torre chiancaAt the Torre Chianca, a series of cipollino marble columns that date back to the 2nd century BC lie just 5 -7 m deep. Beautiful to show even to people who practice snorkeling.
relitto aereo - Casalbate
Relitto Gulten IslamogluAlso called "the wreck of Torre Canne", the Gulten Islamoglu ship, flying the Turkish flag, lies at -39 m on a sandy bottom about 2 nautical miles off the port of Torre Canne (BR).
Sunk in 1994 due to adverse weather conditions we find it today in good condition, in perfect navigation, with its gross tonnage of 499 tons and 57 m in length.
The wreck is now a den of numerous species of fish; in particular it is possible to see the grouper (Epinephelus Guaza), beautiful clouds of Saraghi (Diplodus vulgaris), while most of the plates are colonized by oysters (Ostrea lurida).
Reached the diving point with the dinghy, a descent begins in the blue along the top, until it reaches an altitude of 17 m where it is possible to start seeing the yard, continuing the descent going towards the stern we can go down to an altitude of -39 m to see eo photograph propeller and rudder. From there we begin to make deco admiring the wreck, we carry ourselves at an altitude of 33-34 m on the bridge and going up again we visit (from the outside) the stern castle.
With a bottom time of about 15 minutes we can admire almost all the wreckage, with air; by diving with an EAN 32 it is possible to do a more comfortable dive with about 25 minutes at the bottom.

Isolotto di San Paolo (o Scoglio dell’Eremita)The islet of San Paolo, a few tens of meters from the south coast of Polignano a mare, is better known as Scoglio dell'Eremita, a name attributed to it, according to many, because of a legend that tells of a man settled there for live isolated from the rest of the world.
On the island you can see the remains of a chapel dedicated to Sant'Antonio Abate, who in 1837 were used as a lazaretto to cope with the cholera epidemic, the remains of a well for collecting rainwater and an iron cross, placed in honor of San Vito Martire, Patron Saint of Polignano a Mare, by some missionary friars in the year 1901.
The site from the underwater point of view has much to offer, starting from the beautiful steep walls alternating with large boulders, which run all around the island, giving the eyes of the diver an incessant succession of shapes and colors, giving the possibility to admire: yellow gorgonian (Eunicella Cavolini), sea daisy (Parazoanthus axinellae), cerianto (Cerianthus membranaceus), spirographs (Sabella spallanzani), castagnole (Chromis chromis), ocello thrush (Symphodus ocellatus), damsels (Coris julis), pavonina damsel (Thalassoma pavo), scorfanotto (Scorpanea notata), in rare cases the brown grouper (Epinephelus guaza) and different types of nudibranches among which the beautiful flabellina.
With depths ranging between 5 and 35 m and the possibility of making different types of dives, the Scoglio dell'Eremita is one of the most sought-after diving destinations in the province of Bari. Given the peculiarities of the Polignano coast, the islet can be easily added only by boat.
Our team from time to time will be able to advise you on the type of dive to be made based on your level and the weather and sea conditions. Generally there is a slight current and good visibility.
Sommergibile TRITON - BarlettaOff the town of Barletta, about 10 miles from the shore and about 38 meters deep, is the wreck of the submarine of the British navy. The TRITON was sunk in combat by the Italian torpedo boat CLIO on 19 December 1940. It is a wreck of great historical and photographic interest, it lends itself to recreational dives but of great difficulty because of the strong currents and the bad visibility in some conditions.
Relitto KENMAR - ViesteOff the coast of Vieste, about 17 meters deep, is the wreck of the KENMAR, a ship of American nationality sunk with its grain load in 1945.
Mulini sommersi - Lago CapodacquaThe lake, privately owned, is located within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, immersed in an uncontaminated nature of vast archaeological interest (we recall the WARRIOR of Capestrano).
The reservoir was born in the second half of the 1960s to have a water reserve in the area for the irrigation of the surrounding lands; today, after the blackout in 2006, it is also used for the production of electricity resold to ENEL, thanks to a pre-existing hydroelectric power plant for supplying the two water forcing pumps.
The lake is fed by many sources on the surface and as many submerged. These springs originally fed a stream that, joining the other two springs, that of Presciano and that of Lake Capestrano, formed the river TIRINO. In the vicinity of these watercourses, two MILLS and a Colorificio were created, approximately in the Middle Ages. Today the building of the paint factory is still visible on the surface, while the two mills are submerged, in good condition, and can be visited by divers in possession of any underwater patent given the easy immersion.
Due to its nature as a spring lake, the reservoir guarantees excellent visibility (around 70 m) and a particular lake flora, typical of spring-fed environments (the lake is roughly 330 m) . As far as fauna is concerned, the lake offers a large population of Fario trout, which are severely threatened by the illegal introduction, in 2005, of three pike, which have also frightened the avian fauna. After their sighting it was mandated by the Municipality of Capestrano and the owners of the reservoir to hunt pike, to some local fishermen. In 2007 the last remaining pike was caught, it weighed about 12 kg and was about 110 cm long. Today we finally see the re-growth of the lake fauna, even if that one
avian is still affected by the effect of pike (there was also a considerable population of crayfish today exterminated by aggressive fishing).
Grotta Giusti - Monsummano TermeThe immersion is carried out with the help of a regulator, putting into practice the methods of breath control and exploiting the absence of gravity. The path ends with a perceptive relaxation, lying on the surface of the thermal water: breathing and breathing in from the underwater dispenser improves breathing control.
