Handicapped Scuba Association
The extraordinary challenge of HSA Italia
HSA, an international organization taking its first steps in California in 1975, at the University of Irvine, with the aim of bringing disabled people closer to the world of diving, began its adventure in Italy in the mid-1980s. A few years later, thanks to Aldo Torti, together with many friends, it became the first structured reality that deals with the dissemination of diving for people with disabilities. Distrust, medical suitability, inadequate equipment, cultural resistance over the years are now outdated barriers. Thanks to the tenacity, the skills and the strong sense of altruism of Aldo Torti and the many friends who founded HSA Italia with him, it was possible to show everyone that the company is feasible and that the diving activity is a concrete goal reachable even for people with disabilities. HSA is today an established reality, which looks to the future. Believing in new perspectives and embracing fascinating adventures, in step with the times, are the motivations that drive HSA Italia to continue to implement initiatives of excellence, in line with its own history, in favor of a scuba diver for everyone.
The association has its own trainers and competent instructors and is able to issue patents from the basic level to the instructor's booklet for the following didactics.
For recreational diving according to the WASE, NADD and CMAS didactics; while for people with disabilities it relies on the experience of HSA.
